What do fairies, quilters, chocolate and music have in common?

They are all going to be at VAQG's 2019 Quilt Retreat: Tips and Techniques! Don't miss out on the fun! February 25 - 28, 2019. Space is limited.

Hello VAQG Members.
Your Escape organizers and team have been very busy working to make the 2019 “Tips and Techniques” Retreat the best ever!! We have also been fielding questions and would like to address them, but before we do, we want to TEASE you with a sneak peek at four of the workshops:
1) Longarmer and modern quilter Carol Byrnes will teach us how to design a quilt using an IPAD. Carol will also show us how she picks a quilt design to accent a quilt pattern. Do you ever look at your quilt sandwich and wonder "How do I quilt that star, that square, that animal...?" Wonder no more!
2) “Best In Show” winner, Beth Schmidt, will share her paper piecing technique with us. To provide a fast start, she is creating a practice pattern and instructions. And maybe she will share with us some of her secrets to success in winning such a coveted award over and over again!
3) The very and we mean, VERY talented Mary Lynne Izzo will show you how to accent your quilt and art quilt designs by using colored pencils. She will have several colors available of these pencils so you can start to perfect your new technique while in her workshop. And as a special treat, she plans to share some of her quilts so you can see what can be accomplished with a little help from a little colored pencil. Of course, it must be the right kind of pencil, and that secret will be revealed as well.
4) For those quilters who choose to send quilt tops and/or sandwiches to a longarmer, Robin Kriegs will share a guide list and review what it takes to get ready for this final stage. Never again worry about what you should do or what you don't need to do when you hire someone to put those finishing touches on your quilt.
Now, let us say a few things:
We are trying to put maximum value into the 3 1/2 days and are working to make each attendee feel special while retreating. All will be treated with fairy gifts, door prizes, music, and other surprises along with great workshops.
The issue of not having a 'national teacher' seems to bother some people. ALL of our workshop leaders are well-known, well respected and very talented. And, they and are looking forward to sharing their talents with you. By the time you spend time with them, each will have spent hours honing their skills, preparing demonstrations, working on a handout, and making samples -- all with an eye to giving retreaters the best possible learning experiences. Additionally, we hope to introduce a special guest next month someone who has travelled all over the USA sharing her skills followed by rave reviews.
In past retreats, space dictated that it was necessary to limit the number of students in each classroom, meaning some were not able to participate in one or more classes they wanted. We are changing this!! During the 2019 retreat, every attendee will have the freedom to learn from each and every workshop leader in a bright, spacious area, to pick and choose the ones that are of most interest, OR sit, chat, laugh and sew with friends in another area where each retreater will have a dedicated 6ft table – left in place for the whole time.
Stay tuned. In the weeks ahead, we will post more information, details about additional workshops and give hints about some nifty surprises.
Or, better yet, sign up now....we are now half full so don't delay in making a deposit. The Carlisle, only open for a few weeks, is already receiving national accolades for its’ attentive staff, thoughtful layout, location in Sarasota’s quaint Amish-Mennonite neighborhood, and super cleanliness. We are very lucky to have the special prices they are making available to us!
