There is a new yarn shop in Englewood.  "A Bit O' Yarn Shop"is located at 232 N. Indiana Avenue, Englewood, FL.  It is a nice large shop and worth visiting.  It is on 776 in a small strip shopping area a few blocks north of Dearborn Street.

www.VisitSarasota.org is the official website for Visit Sarasota County.  Quilters (or anyone) planning a trip can search the site using the word "quilt".  You will find events and an informative article about quilting in Sarasota County.  It is a great website for locals and tourists alike.

May 5-26, 2017: Pushing Boundaries: A Juried Exhibit of Contemporary Fiber Art an exhibit of fiber art that goes beyond the expected to express both personal and artistic visions. Ranging from realistic to abstract, it showcases a variety of materials and exciting techniques: shibori dyeing, printmaking, hand and machine stitching, painting on silk and cottons with threads and acrylics, embellishment with beads, fibers and found objects. All of the selected pieces were created by members of Art Quilters Unlimited, an exceptionally talented group of fiber artists who have been meeting in Fort Myers for over 10 years. New Quilts from An Old Favorite: New York Beauty.  Quilters around the world share innovative interpretations of a traditional pattern in this 23rd Annual Competition coordinated by The National Quilt Museum.
Shirt Tales: Portraits by Karol Kusmaul. SAQA fiber artist, Karol Kusmaul presents a joyful and distinctive ‘body’ of work—i.e. figures + portraits—composed of upcycled fabrics, she calls her glad rags.
Florida-based members of SAQA: Studio Art Quilt Associates share their fiber works created on the theme of: GROWTH.

Through July 30, 2017 at the South Florida Museum in Bradenton: "Quilting with a Cause" tells the story of how women came together to express themselves socially and artistically," said Sara Blackwelder, exhibits and collections specialist at the Museum. The new exhibitfeatures quilts from the South Florida Museum's collections and features quilts that showcase a variety of styles as well as lifetime milestones. The exhibit also explains aspects of early quilting, including how quilters used plant materials to make fabric dyes, as well as quilting styles, the intricate needlework used in quilting and how quilts were used to celebrate causes like civil rights in the 1960s and raise awareness about the AIDS epidemic beginning in the late 1980s as well as modern quilts by Carole Lyles Shaw, an artist who was inspired to begin making both artquilts and utilitarian quilts in 1990. Sarasota has a Button Club for button lovers and collectors. The Tamiami Trail Button Club meets on the 2nd Wednesday of the month during season. Meetings are from 12:30 to 3:00 at the Gulf Gate Public Library in Sarasota.
