Reasons to Enter Your Quilt in the Show
1. No pre-selection. All quilts that qualify under our show rules will be accepted and displayed.
2. Sharing your hard work with others is what the joy of quilting is all about! Be proud of your accomplishment and share it with others! You KNOW it’s beautiful, even if imperfect! (Have you ever seen a perfect quilt??)
3. Planning to enter the show motivates you to finish up the details on your beautiful quilt!
4. You may opt to have your quilt judged by an unbiased professional judge. The judge will look for exemplary work by categories. Some examples of categories from the 2024 Quilt Show were: modern quilt, traditional design, best use of color, edge finish, hand applique, precision piecing, artistic merit, etc.
5. If judged, you will receive a confidential, written evaluation of your entry. You can use this information to confirm what you already knew was good about your work, and get some valuable feedback and ideas about how to make an even better quilt next time.
6. You can enjoy seeing your quilt hanging at the Show! This is the perfect excuse to spend time at the show, gathering new ideas and fabrics for your next quilt, as well as experiencing the thrill of watching other people enjoy your entry. Pass by it several times while you’re there and watch people study your quilt!
7. Possibly win a ribbon! Although few quilts actually wind up in the Winner’s Circle, we like to consider the entire show as a big winner’s circle. Every entry is important and wonderful to look at.
8. Perhaps the best thing about entering Quilting by the Gulf is the great feeling of accomplishment of having shown your quilt to everyone there!
Tips: Overall visual impact grabs a judge’s attention.
Use a lint roller! Clean off the loose threads and/or pet hair.
A well done binding makes a difference. Judges look for even binding, "filled" by the quilt, with corners tacked down.
